The Light on Yoga Research Trust (LOYRT)

In the year 1978, soon after the 60th birthday of BKS Iyengar, the Light on Yoga Research Trust was formed, whose objective is to teach, propagate, and conduct scientific research in the field of yoga.


The primary objects of the Light on Yoga Research Trust are:

  • To organise, sponsor, promote, establish or conduct scientific research in Yoga in any way or by any means whatsoever.

  • To establish a centre or centres for scientific research in Yoga in such of its branches of knowledge as in the Opinion of the Trustees would promote the welfare of India and the world.

  • To desseminate knowledge and provide training in the aforesaid fields.

  • To encourage and assist research scholars practitioners and teachers in Yoga in the aforesaid fields.

The Trust has been working towards these objectives since its inception. Its current activities include:

  • Running two centres in Mumbai. Iyengar Yogashraya at  Lower Parel and collaboration with the Quest Foundation at Sion where regular classes are conducted for adults, children and those with chronic medical problems.

  • Teachers are deputed to conduct free classes for the Mumbai police and the street children at the Salam Balak Trust.

  • Deputing teachers to different parts of India to conduct workshops on a regular basis.

  • Conducts research studies on patients with Parkinson’s Disease.

  • LOYRT along with its parent Institute, Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute conducts a 5 level certification course in yoga for children since 1998.  This course was started in 1998 and is being offered by some premium schools of the country in Dehradun as well as Mumbai and Pune.

Different Strokes Communications

Different Strokes Communications Pvt. Ltd. was started almost 20 years ago as a production house that has produced many commercials, corporate audio-visuals, and covered many of the mega-classes associated with Iyengar Yoga. Amongst other projects, we’d produced the documentary on the life of Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar in 2008 titled ‘Leap of Faith’ and released it on Guruji’s 90th birthday.
We are now primarily focused on feature films and documentaries that showcase the rich spiritual, cultural, and literary heritage of India. Our company’s philosophy is to make products with strong, original, and local content. Indian entertainment is becoming bigger and more international, and we want to make our culture and sensibilities universal through films and media.

Vishaal Desai is a Bombay based Writer and Filmmaker, whose head-strong passion for story-telling took him on a 6 year long illuminating journey to the UK.


Equipped with a graduate degree in Film & Animation and a masters degree in Screenwriting from the prestigious London Film School, he returned to Bombay to pursue his creativity with fervour; Writing, Directing and Producing many short films over the past decade and engaging his artistry through several other mediums including animation, photography and music.


His films have been screened at the National Film Theatre in London, as well as film festivals both nationally and internationally, including the Cannes Film Festival, winning Best Director at the London Horror Festival and Best Film at the Quick Flicks World competition.


In addition to narrative filmmaking, Vishaal also produces commercials through his company Digital Rabbit Productions.
